In-House Laboratory

Laboratory diagnostic testing is an important component of caring for and treating a pet. Animal Medical Center of Chandler is equipped with a full in-house laboratory, where we can perform a number of diagnostic tests. Having an in-house laboratory allows us to get results faster so your pet can be treated sooner, increasing the chances of a successful recovery. Some results can even be made available the same day.

Although laboratory testing is often necessary when a pet is ill or injured, it can benefit healthy pets as well. The results of certain laboratory tests for a healthy pet are used to establish a wellness baseline. This baseline can be used for future visits to determine if there are any changes that could indicate a health problem. We may also recommend specific tests for senior patients to check for certain conditions that are common in older pets, such as diabetes, kidney disease, and liver disease.

Laboratory Tests Performed

Some of the most common in-house pet laboratory tests that we perform include:

  • Blood chemistry panel
  • Complete blood count (CBC)
  • Thyroid test
  • Urinalysis
  • Fructosamine level test
  • Test for blood glucose curves for diabetic care
  • Skin/ear cytology
  • Fine needle aspiration
  • Fecal exam (for best diagnostics, these tests are sent out to the lab)

What Lab Testing Can Reveal

Just as with human laboratory testing, pet laboratory testing can reveal a number of health conditions, many of which can be very serious without treatment. These include:

  • Kidney disease
  • Liver disease
  • Diabetes
  • Anemia
  • Bone marrow disorders
  • Parasites
