Veterinarians

Andrea Stickland, DVM/Owner

As the owner and leading veterinarian at Animal Medical Center of Chandler, Andrea has a specialty in general medicine, including internal medicine, dermatology, nutritional consulting, and soft tissue surgery. She is a graduate of Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine, Class of 2001. She was born in Inglewood, California, lived in Lake Tahoe for 10 years, and then moved with her family to Arizona. Her interest in animals began early in life, starting with 2 little dogs. Her pet family then grew to include 10 horses, 24 cats, 26 dogs, and 2 birds–all at one time. She began her veterinary career as a veterinary assistant in Tucson, Arizona, while attending the University of Arizona (GO CATS!).

After working as a veterinary assistant, Andrea met her husband, Chris, a Tucson native, and moved to Michigan for graduate school. While there, she participated in many new adventures, including Student Class President, President of the Student Chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association, President of the Feline Club and Canine Club, and head of the fundraising committee for the Veterinary College at Michigan State. She spent her summers working for the Vetward Bound Program, which helps underprivileged young adults fulfill their quest in the veterinary industry. She also spent time at the Indian reservations along New Mexico and Arizona for the Remote Area Medicine program to help spay, neuter, and vaccinate reservation animals. Andrea and Chris moved back to Arizona after graduation in 2001. In 2005, she  was invited by MSU to go to Wyoming to participate in teaching veterinary students remote area medicine and surgery on the reservations by Riverton.

Andrea and her husband share their home with three children, a spoiled cat named Whiskey Whiskertons, and a bulldog named Latte. When she’s not at work, she loves to read, dance, hike, and spend time with friends and family. Today, she  finds herself here at Animal Medical Center of Chandler to welcome the community and provide wonderful care and service to her patients.

Kristy Sorenson, DVM

Dr. Kristy Sorenson is an Arizona native who received her Bachelor of Science from Arizona State University. She worked as a veterinary technician in Dallas-Fort Worth for two years, then ultimately went on to pursue and receive her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from the University of Wisconsin in 2016. After experiencing four long, gray Midwest winters, Dr. Sorenson and her husband, Jake, decided they needed to return to the warmth and sunshine. They relocated back to the Phoenix area and currently live in Mesa with their two boxers, Sol and Elmer, and their terrier rescue Zoey. In her spare time, Dr. Sorenson enjoys hiking, traveling, swimming, decorating her home, and visiting new restaurants.

Dr. Sorenson’s special interests related to caring for your pets include preventative care, internal medicine, and dentistry. She is passionate about creating client experiences that involve both interactive education and establishing meaningful connections with both pet and owner. She looks forward to working together as a team to build a plan for your pet’s care!

Laura Diltz, DVM

Dr.  Laura Diltz grew up in Southern California and moved to New York to attend Cornell University for her undergraduate degree. She then went on to attend the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and graduated in 2007. After finishing school, she was very happy to say goodbye to the snow and move to sunny Arizona where she has been practicing veterinary medicine ever since! Her current pet family includes three cats, the senior Ms. Kalypso, and two teenage boys, Loki, and Lorenzo. She spends her free time traveling and reading books.

She loves practicing preventative care and internal medicine for both dogs and cats, but has a special interest in caring for cats. As a longtime member of the American Association of Feline Practitioners, she is very happy to join a Cat Friendly Practice to help improve the health of naturally secretive cats by promoting fear free visits and increasing early detection of illness.

Rachel Bart, DVM

Dr. Rachel Bart was born in England and moved to Toronto, Canada when she was 4 which is where she grew up. She has lived in Phoenix, Az since 2002. Dr. Bart graduated from the University of British Columbia with a B.Sc in Chemistry in 1998 and then went straight to veterinary school at The Ontario Veterinary College in Guelph Ontario. She graduated with honors in 1998. After 6 months in general practice she transferred into emergency and critical care where she spent her first 10 years of her career. She then returned to regular practice where she has been since 2008. After 11 years with one clinic, Dr. Bart elected to make a change and was excited to join the Animal Medical Center of Chandler in September 2019!

Her special interests include internal medicine, feline practice, end of life care and she is very comfortable with emergency medicine as well. Dr. Bart enjoys getting to know her owners and patients well, and to help them make the care of their pet easy to understand and very comfortable. She is an active member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, Arizona Veterinary Medical Association, and American Association of Feline Practitioners. Dr. Bart lives with her two teenage sons in the valley. She loves being the mom of two boys are avid hockey players. In her spare time she enjoys being very physically active and traveling.

Front Office Manager

Sydney Hart

Sydney is an Arizona native who moved to Chandler 17 years ago when it was nothing but cow farms and dirt. She spent 4 years in Tucson at the University of Arizona graduating in 2017 with a Bachelor of Science degree in both Criminal Justice and Psychology with a Minor in Sociology. She started in the veterinary field in high school as a Kennel Assistant, graduated college, and is now back with us as our Front Office Manager getting as much puppy and kitten love she can! Currently at home, Sydney has an 11 year old Lhasa Apso named Koda and a 3 year old American Staffordshire Terrier mix named Marky Mark. In her free time she enjoys spending time outside (when it’s not too hot), getting exercise with Mark, binge watching TV shows with Koda, and spending time with friends and family.

Cassandra Allen, CVT

Cassandra came to Animal Medical Center of Chandler in August of 2016. Cassandra graduated from Pima Medical Institute and shortly after became a Certified Veterinary Technician. Cassandra’s hobbies include spending time with her family, traveling up North to escape the heat, and enjoying her 3 cats- Otis, Kitten and Hercules, and her Doberman puppy Enyo.

Krishna Poe, CVT

An Arizona native, Krishna is a U.S. Army veteran and graduate of Mesa Community College and Pima Medical Institute. She has been a veterinary technician since 1998. Her past experiences include hospital management, general practice, and emergency medicine. Although she only works at Animal Medical Center of Chandler part-time now on the weekends, her love of animals and veterinary medicine keeps her active in the field. Krishna is the proud parent of two children, a crazy orange tabby cat, a rambunctious but very sweet pit bull, and an albino corn snake. In her spare time, she enjoys reading, hiking, bike riding, attending church, yoga, kick boxing, and playing with her children.

Katie Jewell, CVT

Katie, an Indiana native, moved to Arizona in March 2018 with her husband Brandon and their two dogs: Elly and Reggie. In 2008, she graduated from the VetTech Institute in Indianapolis. She has been a Registered Veterinary Technician for 9 years and absolutely loves working with animals. Katie and her family also recently rescued a cute Pitbull mix named Barkley! In her spare time, she likes to pet sit, go on walks, read and relax at home with her family.

Brittney Gates

Brittney grew up in Westminster, Maryland and always knew she would work with animals. She graduated from Delaware Valley University in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science degree in zoo science.  After graduating, Brittney spent two years caring for large cats and other exotic species at a wildlife preserve in North Carolina. In 2012, life brought her back north to Alexandria, Virginia where she found her true passion working as a veterinary assistant. In January 2017, a new job opportunity presented a new adventure. Brittney now lives with her husband and their spoiled cat in Gilbert, Arizona, and enjoys hiking, bike riding and enjoying the many new sights that Arizona has to offer.

Vanessa Gonzales

Vanessa attended and graduated from Carrington College as a veterinary assistant in 2009. She has been working in the field ever since and enjoys building bonds with clients and their pets. She currently resides in Chandler with her husband, Junior, and daughter, Mia. They have a poodle mix named Tater and a boxer mix named Dayla. They also have a cat named Marabelle and a newly adopted kitten named Faith. Vanessa enjoys scrapbooking, sewing, and spending quality time with her family.

Andrea Harder

Andrea moved to Arizona when she was 9 years old. As a child always imagined herself working with animals. After graduating high school, Andrea volunteered at Wildlife World Zoo. She then got an internship at the Emergency Animal Clinic and this is where her veterinary career took off. Andrea is happily married and has 2 dogs, Maya and Zen. She loves to travel and see new places and meet new people. In her free time Andrea enjoys sewing, reading, and hiking.

Phoenix McClure

Phoenix grew up in Ohio but currently resides in Casa Grande, although she is looking to move to the Chandler area soon! She graduated from CAC with her Associates in Nursing, but quickly realized she likes being a puppy/kitten nurse much better and became a technician 8 years ago! Her favorite part about her job is being able to make a difference in not only the patient’s life, but also make a connection with their owners. At home, Phoenix has a corgi mix named Charlie and a Chihuahua Cattle Dog mix named Mr. Deeds. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her pups, reading, and hiking (when it’s not 100 degrees out).

Kelsey Parrish

Kelsey grew up in Ohio and moved to Arizona when she was 16 years old. She just recently graduated with her Veterinary Assistant Certification from Pima Medical Institute, and will be continuing her education there in the Veterinary Technician Program. In her free time, Kelsey likes to read, watch movies, and go out to eat to try new restaurants! At home she has a cat named Ody and a crested gecko named Randall.

Heather Payne

Heather grew up with many animals on a horse ranch in Flagstaff, Arizona. She has been in the veterinary field since earning her Veterinary Assistant certification in 2002. After going through a couple of her own eye surgeries, she became intrigued by the field and ended up working at a specialty practice for 9 years. She moved back into general practice in 2015 where she now enjoys the variety. She finds it rewarding being able to contribute to keeping pets happy and healthy. Heather and her husband moved to San Tan Valley in 2008 where they currently reside with their son and two dogs, a Labrador Retriever and an Australian Shepherd. She also has a leopard gecko and an Australian leaf bug! Her free time is spent mostly with family and close friends.

Desiree Espino

Desiree is a California native who has spent the last 15 years in the southwest, but moved to Arizona in 2015 with her family. She has 2 pittie mixes, Boris & Ruca, and 1 old English bulldog named Miklo. However, her 11 year old cat, Luci is the one who runs the household of course. Desiree also has 4 pet rats! Desiree shares the small zoo with her boyfriend, Javier and their 7 year old daughter Malena. Desiree is a 2 year Pima alumni who is shooting to take her VTNE this summer! She enjoys going to the river with her dogs and taking plenty of vacations with her family!

Rebecca Rovin

Rebecca and her family bounced around a lot growing up but she has spent the most time in Arizona! Her interest in the field started young as she grew up with lots of pets consisting of cats, dogs and reptiles! When she adopted her sweet American Staffordshire Terrier pup, Sandy, she changed her life for the better and Rebecca knew she wanted to work in the veterinary field with animals forever. At 16 she started at a veterinary clinic in their boarding facility, moved up to a surgical technician and has not stopped since! Currently, Rebecca lives in Queen Creek with her boyfriend Collin, their two cat children Volibear and Boycott, and a sulcate tortoise Akupara.

Maggie Romero

Maggie is an Arizona native and just recently moved out to San Tan Valley with her boyfriend Alex and their fur family. Their fur family consists of two dogs, a German Shepherd named Zeus and a Miniature Pinscher mix named Odie! Maggie graduated from the Pima Medical Institute Veterinary Assistant program in August of 2018 and started her technician career shortly after that! Her favorite part about her job is learning new things to educate and create bonds with our clients to give their pets the care that they deserve! In her free time she enjoys trying new restaurants and traveling. She also enjoys taking pictures! Fun fact, she has had both her artwork and photography displayed in art shows in downtown Phoenix!

Magdalena Casian

Magdalena was born and raised in Arizona. She attended Chandler High School and graduated in 2018. She then went on to attend East Valley Institute of Technology and completed their Veterinary Assistant program in 2019. At home Magdalena has a 9 year old Chihuahua/Poodle mix named Luna! In her free time she enjoys hanging out with her family, friends and boyfriend Luis.

Lauren Murphy

Lauren, an Arizona native, came to Animal Medical Center of Chandler on her externship as a Veterinary Assistant student in August 2018. In September of 2018 she graduated with her Veterinary Assistant Certification, and will be continuing her education in the Veterinary Technician Program while working part time. At home she has a husband, son, daughter, two Mastiffs named Sarge and Ammo, a Great Dane named McKenzie, Bessy who is an Aussie mix, and two Sphynx kittens named Axxen and Hazey. In Lauren’s free time she loves to camp, go to the lake, fish, and mountain bike when she isn’t snuggling her animals.

Receptionist

Savana Egge

Savana was born and raised in Arizona. She is originally from the Desert Hills area and has lived in Chandler for about 2 years now and loves it! She graduated High School in 2015 and has gone to a couple different colleges but is now currently taking classes at Chandler-Gilbert to work towards becoming an X-Ray Technician. She has three fur babies at home: 2 Pitbulls whose names are Khloe and Chapo and a Queensland Heeler named Dallas. In her free time Savana and her boyfriend love taking their pups to the dog park!

Alexis Yanda

Alexis was born and raised in Arizona. She lived in Glendale up until 2017 and now lives in Gilbert. She lives with her boyfriend, Adam, and sweet Pembroke Welsh Corgi Ein! Alexis has a huge love for dogs and that’s what drew her to wanting to work at a veterinary office. Outside of work she loves to work out and is also a NPC bikini competitor. For fun she loves to spend time with her boyfriend and dog, be at the gym, watch Korean and Japanese dramas, hike, and try new food.

Emily

Emily was born in Michigan but has spent the majority of her life in Arizona. Having graduated Hamilton High School in 2018, she is currently attending Mesa Community College to earn her Associates in Science and eventually transfer to a University. Her goal is to ultimately get her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and work as either an Avian or Exotic Veterinarian or as a Veterinary Behaviorist. She enjoys spending her free time with her three kids: 2 Bearded Dragons named Cletus and Quasimodo, and a Leopard Gecko named Turnip. Aside from hanging out with her cold-blooded companions, Emily enjoys reading, doing various types of artwork, volunteering for local dog rescues and watching documentaries about birds and insects!
